WHO WE ARE

The Old Jail Art Center (OJAC) evolved from housing inmates, to thousands of permanent and traveling works of art. The museum’s original structure is a restored and repurposed limestone jail built in 1877-1878 by Scottish stonemasons, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The museum has expanded from four small galleries into 17,000 square feet of gallery, education, archive and research space that serves a core audience of 25 rural counties. The OJAC is also part of a select group of museums accredited with the American Alliance of Museums.

Since its beginning, the philosophy of the OJAC has been to offer diverse and innovative exhibition and interpretive programming to the public, free of charge. Art for All. Free for All.
