This October, the Old Jail Art Center is thrilled to announce the start of the Traveling History Trunks Program- a free historical enrichment program!

Is your 4th-8th grade class a one-hour or less drive from the OJAC? Sign up to use a trunk. Each trunk has a different topic that is thematically tied to artifacts from our historical archives.

The themes are Manifest Destiny, Tonkawa Heritage, Buffalo Soldiers, and Vaqueros. Things you will find in each trunk are lesson plans, books, props, hands-on activities, and additional resources on the topic.

Traveling History Trunks are always FREE to participating campuses! This is an opportunity for students to explore first-hand historical artifacts they have been learning about over the course of the school year.

Throughout the school year, you can have one trunk in your possession for eight school days to be able to enjoy everything the trunk has to offer. For more information about the program, click to review the Traveling History Trunks webpage.

We would like to thank the Summerlee Foundation as well as Doris Miller & Don Fitzgibbons Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation of Abilene for supporting the THCP Program.

We are looking forward to you joining us as we dive into a variety of historical topics!
