The Old Jail Art Center is currently seeking A contracted ASSISTANT FOR ITS EDUCATION DEPARTMENT. 

POSITION INFORMATION:

The Education Department Assistant is a contracted employee of the museum, working through the Education Department. Assistant will gain:

  • Resume building in the fields of classroom education, museum education, and art education

  • Personal arts and culture enrichment

  • Experience in administrative and office organizational tasks


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attend a monthly training and review session at the OJAC

Conduct classroom art instruction, including discussion (using Visual Thinking Strategies) and art activities for K-12 audiences

Manage classroom dynamics

Conduct tours and artmaking activities on-site at the museum during the final month of the program

Promote education programs, policies, and the mission of the OJAC


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Aid in the facilitation of educational programs such as summer camps, workshops, school outreach programs, and field trips.

Assist in the organization, procurement, and transportation of art supplies and other program equipment.

Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, sorting, labeling, and basic financial bookkeeping.

Promote education programs, policies, and the mission of the OJAC.

REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Candidate must have reliable transportation.

Candidate must live within 60 miles of the Old Jail Art Center.


HOURS

Up to 25 hours of work per week

Candidate may choose their own schedule, but must be consistent. Saturday work is mandatory.

COMPENSATION

$120/ full 7.5 hour work day

START DATE

September 2026

The position is offered as a 6-month contract role. Renewal or extension beyond this term may be considered based on performance and mutual interest.
