The Old Jail Art Center is currently seeking part-time instructors for its physical K-12 outreach program. 

POSITION INFORMATION:

Art-To-Go is the primary student outreach program for the Old Jail Art Center.

Instructors for the OJAC Education Department make monthly visits to various Region 14 Campuses, providing thematic lessons to K-12 audiences that address current social and cultural issues as referenced in the museum collection.

At each monthly program, Art-To-Go instructors lead observation and discussion of educational videos, books and collection art works connected to that month’s theme, followed by a studio making activity.

This program is provided free to participating schools; including 8 monthly visits and a travel stipend encouraging a field trip to the OJAC in the final month(s) of the school year.  Contracted ATG Instructors travel to participating schools for 8 monthly visits, and to the OJAC in the final month to lead a concluding tour and making activity.

The Art-To-Go instructor is a contracted employee of the museum, working through the Education Department. Instructors gain:

  • Valuable practice in K-12 classroom instruction and management

  • Networking opportunities with area K-12 campuses and teachers

  • Resume building in fields of Classroom Education, Museum Education, Art Education

  • Personal arts and culture enrichment


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attend a monthly training and review session at the OJAC

Conduct monthly, classroom art instruction including discussion (using Visual Thinking Strategies) and art activities for K-12 audiences

Manage classroom dynamics

Conduct tours and making activities on-site at the museum during final month of program

Promote education programs, policies, and mission of the OJAC


REQUIREMENTS:

Candidate must possess or be pursuing a Bachelors degree in the field of Education or Visual Art

Candidate must have reliable transportation

Some form of teaching experience required. (camp/workshop, classroom, TA experience, etc.)

Schedules are very flexible. [Instructors may choose to work between 1-4 days per week, but must be available from 8am-4pm on those days]


HOURS

May work between 1-5 days (between 7-35 instruction hours) per week

Instructors must be available from 8 am -4 pm on the work day(s) of their choice

COMPENSATION

$120 full school day

$60 half school day

Plus Full Travel Reimbursement at current State Rate
